The Wiki Phenomenon

Wikis are everywhere. Ever since Wikipedia emerged as a leading online encyclopedia, many others have sought to repeat the success or translate it into a new area. What makes Wikis so attractive is that they are collaborative creations, crossing over the boundaries between groups, forums, and blogs, etc. They throw out many of the old definitions -- and yet they are really simply the latest way to fulfill a need that has been with us since the dawning of the Internet. The dream of a global online community is nothing new. Now, however, the tools exist to make that idea real for people in very concrete ways.
